Laura Saponara has spent many years working with social movements that seek to make our country a fairer, more equitable place. A former communications director at the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California, she now serves as a consultant to nonprofits and public health agencies. At the University of Texas, Saponara studied the framing at work in religious conservative social movements. Her master’s thesis is about the framing used by the Christian Coalition to characterize poverty and race and take up themes of persecution and victimhood.
