Destiny Jones

Destiny Jones is a rising junior from Richmond, Virginia, currently pursuing a double major in psychology and media studies at the University of Virginia. Her academic interests center around the negative media portrayals and representations of Black women. Destiny’s ultimate career goal is to work as a sideline reporter for professional and collegiate sports, where she hopes to promote more diverse and accurate representations of Black women in the media.

Alongside her academic pursuits, Destiny is an active member of several organizations at the University of Virginia. As a peer advisor and co-chair of the Academic Support Committee in the Office of African American Affairs (OAAA), she works to support and uplift incoming and transfer students. She also works as an American Sign Language tutor for underclassmen and is a member of the Psychological Society, where she helps promote interest in the psychology department and fundraise for local mental health organizations. Destiny has also gained valuable experience as a photo and video assistant for the Virginia Cavaliers football team and as a research assistant for the UVA Social Development Lab, where she learned the importance of SEL in adolescent growth and development.

In her free time, Destiny enjoys yoga and listening to her favorite podcast, True Crime Creepers. In May 2021, she started her own podcast, A Thousand Wishes, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues and support those who struggle with them.
