Teachers often come to parents when their children have problems, but sometimes their framing can lead kids to believe that they can't do something, or that they are failing. Are problems better framed as opportunities and challenges?
I have to say that sometimes a problem is just a
problem. When my 8 yr old still throws tantrums like
a toddler, and kicks other children and throws rocks
at teachers - that’s just a problem. No opportunity
there that I see.
Actually, I still see opportunity! Tantrums, rock
throwing: yes, a problem, but also teaching
opportunities, opportunities to learn to deal with
strong emotions appropriately…:-)
