Peter Kinderman is Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Liverpool and an honorary Consultant Clinical Psychologist with Mersey Care NHS Trust.

He is also Head of the Institute of Psychology, Health and Society at the University of Liverpool, with over 200 academic staff (32 of them professors) comprising clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, general practitioners, public health physicians, nurses, sociologists and others. The Institute conducts world-leading research in the areas of wellbeing, health services research, public health research and research into mental health and applied psychology.

He also leads a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) entitled ‘Beyond Nature and Nurture’, aimed at learners interested in learning how psychologists understand emotions, behaviours, and thinking patterns, and how this helps clinical psychologists make sense of their clients’ problems.

Peter is the author of numerous peer-reviewed research papers and his latest book is, A Prescription for Psychiatry: Why We Need a Whole New Approach to Mental Health and Wellbeing.
