Thanksgiving is upon us! How will you say “thanks” next Thursday?

I’m thankful for classical music. Whether I’m feeling sad or happy, it really carries me through the day.

I am thankful for my job and my family. I am truly blessed.

I am grateful for my Mom’s strength and love since my dad passed away. We now talk several times a week and I am beginning to know her and appreciate her more than ever.
Chris

I am grateful that Mom & Dad taught us how to love one another, honor and cherish each other’s strengths, and bless each other in our weaknesses. I am grateful that my siblings and I passed that to our children who are, in turn, passing it to their children.
Mary Angela Brinton

I am grateful for being present for the final breaths of two of my grandparents. Death to me is simply a change in life - I don’t learn to live ‘without’ my loved ones, I learn to live WITH them, in a different way.

Mother to 2-year-old son: What are you thankful for?

My dad passed away two weeks ago and I’m grateful we had as much time with him as we did, and that he fostered and encouraged in us independence, critical thinking, and self-reliance. I’m grateful for how much he loved us.

I’m thankful for the stories we share—in storybooks, in emails, even the ones that show up in the guise of Facebook status updates.

Every week we post a photo submitted by one of our readers along with all the happy and thankful comments gathered throughout the week.

To contribute, email your gratitude (a sentence or two would be great) or your favorite photo to Janine at janinek@berkeley.edu

You can also contribute gratitudes by commenting at the bottom of this post. Please include: your name if you’d like us to use it and any other info you’d like us to list, e.g., if the “gratitude” is from one of your children, it would be great to know his or her age.

I’m grateful that a mom in my daughter’s kindergarten class helped them make an altarcito for the Day of the Dead. We are still processing Grandpa’s passing a few months ago and this gave us a way to remember him and honor him.

I am grateful that my son is optimistic and positive — that almost every day he tells me that school was “great” and that a few simple pleasures will lead him to declare that he had the “best day ever.”
Natasha

Today I am thankful for those who give a little in order to help many.
Mahate

I am grateful that there happened to be men walking by my house this morning just as I had noticed a squirrel had passed away on my lawn, they had a shovel and were happy to assist me
Kathy

I’m grateful that my son likes to wash his hands. It’s one less thing I have to ask him to do.

Today I found myself in a neighborhood with an original Carnegie library. It’s a small branch. Beautiful, spacious ceilings. I am grateful for libraries.

I am grateful (very grateful) that this time of year encourages us to remember those who are no longer with us; with gratitude, I think of my father, and smile.

If there’s one month during which we practice gratitude, it’s November! Tell us! How do you cultivate gratitude in your home?

I’m grateful for my children’s unfiltered creativity and imagination.  Every day they surprise me with what they make using paper, crayons, tape and string.
Amy

I like popcorn. Thank you!
Michael, age 2

I’m grateful for work, even volunteer tasks and chores around the house.  Work makes me feel connected and needed and just plain helpful.
Texas Grandma

I’m grateful my niece who is 60 has stopped smoking! Nearing 100 days!
Proud Auntie

I’m happy that my daughter’s school will celebrate the Day of the Dead with an authentic Dia del los Muertos altar. She is so young and trying to make sense of Grandpa who left us recently. I love that we have a way to remember and celebrate our loved ones who have passed on.
jnb

I am grateful I can pursue a higher education.
Nina

I’m grateful that this journal is going on its third year! Thank you to everyone who reads, reposts, and shares your gratitudes.
