Jill Halpern

Jill Halpern is a writer, storyteller, and educator with a long history of teaching and learning from underrepresented college students. Her path includes nearly two decades teaching mathematics in the University of Michigan’s Comprehensive Studies Program as well as extensive work cultivating various equal-opportunity-inspired STEM initiatives. Through storytelling, she has had the good fortune to share her “whole flower” teaching adventures in diverse venues ranging from TEDxUofM and the UHS Martin Luther King Symposium to a Tellabration festival and the Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth.

In recent years, her unconventional, humanistic approach to STEM teaching has been recognized with a U of M Provost’s Teaching Innovation Prize and an Outstanding Contributions to Undergraduate Education Award. She is a graduate of MIT and the University of Michigan and lives and works, joyfully, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
