I am thankful for 4th of July celebrations with my family.

Today - I’m grateful for lazy evenings. Intentionally slowing the clock down…even when it means my 2yr old twins went to bed at 930pm, my 4yr old is snoring on the floor, and my 6yr old is awake, watching the end of the movie warm on Daddy’s lap. And tomorrow morning…I’ll be grateful for sleeping children as I sneak out for a sunrise walk at our State Arboretum…which is, essentially, in my backyard.

I’m thankful for music, for 4th of July marches, and mariachis, for classical music and hymns, and for favorites such as “Les Miserables.”  Music soothes the soul and puts a bounce in our step!

I am grateful for the baby growing big and strong inside of me. I am so grateful for my loving husband, family and friends.

My dear student, Mikaela, is grateful for her family and her friends—especially her mom and dog, Sparky.

I must say a big “thank you” to Roald Dahl, E.B. White and other authors that have written wonderful books for children. Reading a book with your daughter - learning, explaining, laughing together - is my favorite way to end the day. Thank you for the great stories!

I’m thankful for toots and jokes about toots.

I am so thankful that the Oakland city council passed a budget that saved our libraries!!!

I’m thankful for a very successful MRI.  Apprehension at the thought of having to stay perfectly still for one hour while experiencing excruciating pain turned out more than O.K!

I’m thankful that a very dear family member got some good news from the doctors this week.

Send us your photos! Every week we post a photo submitted by one of our readers along with all the happy and thankful comments gathered throughout the week.

To contribute, email your gratitude (a sentence or two would be great) or your favorite photo to Janine at janinek@berkeley.edu

You can also contribute by commenting at the bottom of this post.  Please include: your name if you’d like us to use it and any other info you’d like us to list, e.g., if the “gratitude” is from one of your children, it would be great to know his or her age.
