The GGSC’s Emiliana Simon-Thomas and Jeremy Adam Smith talk happiness and well-being at UC Berkeley’s Cal Day

Check out the Greater Good Events Calendar.

Emiliana Simon-Thomas, Ph.D. Emiliana Simon-Thomas, Ph.D.

Join us at UC Berkeley’s annual free community open house.

At 10 am, GGSC’s web editor Jeremy Adam Smith presents Positive Thinking for Cranks and Pessimists. Sick of people telling you to be happy? Does compulsory optimism make you want to scream? If so, Smith is on your wavelength. But as a writer and editor for UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center, he also knows about a lot of research that can improve your life, if you’re willing to give positive thinking a chance. He’ll explain the science of happiness—minus all the happy talk.

Then, at 11 am, learn about The Science of Happiness with GGSC’s science director Emiliana Simon-Thomas. We all want to be happy, and there are countless ideas about what happiness is and how we can get some. But not many of those ideas are based on science. At this talk, neuroscientist Simon-Thomas will lead you through the latest research on happiness—and offer research-based practices for emotional well-being.
