Empathy, Self, Society, Culture Symposium

This symposium features Carolyn Dean, a professor of History and International Studies at Brown University, Nancy Eisenberg, a professor of Psychology at Arizona State University, Nancy Sherman, a professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University as they explore theories and practices of empathy.

Growing out of a two-year grant-supported project on “Virtuous Empathy: Scientific and Humanistic Investigations,” this symposium will explore theories and practices of empathy with respect to psychology, ethics, culture, history and society. The symposium will examine empathy’s implications on human development, interpersonal relationships and life within the political, cultural and social spheres.
