Participate in a Study on Heroism & Altruism

Announcement | May 29, 2008

Led by Dr. Philip Zimbardo, a new study is examining how people view ideas such as altruism, heroism, and other helping behaviors. Greater Good is helping to recruit participants for this study. More information is below and at

Researchers from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology and Stanford University are seeking participants for a new study on pro-social behavior. The goal of this research is to examine how people views ideas such as altruism, heroism, and other helping behaviors. While much research in psychology is done in laboratory settings, this study is designed to gather responses from the general public, allowing the researchers to gain a better understanding of how pro-social activities are widely perceived.

This research is led by Dr. Philip Zimbardo, a Professor Emeritus at Stanford University, Kathy Blau and Zeno Franco, both doctoral students at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology, and Matt Langdon, Director of the Janus Center. Participation is open to anyone above 18 years of age who speaks English (international participation is encouraged). The survey takes 15-30 minutes to complete and can be found on the web at:
